Mimi Betz is now residing in New Jersey, thus she is no longer a DC area artist. She first developed an interest in painting while attending high school in Paris, France.  Upon returning to the DC area, she began a 39 year career with the Federal Government.  In 2004, as she was about to retire, her family gave her art classes at the Yellow Barn Studio in Bethesda, MD, as a gift so that she might revive the painting talents of her youth.

Since then Mimi continued to take art classes:  at the Compass Atelier (Rockville, MD) and the Yellow Barn Studio. She has taken workshops from plein air artists Bethanne Kinsella Cople, Sara Linda Poly, Gavin Brooks and Nancy Tankersley through the South Street Art Gallery in Easton, Md.  She studied at Montgomery College taking both studio and plein air classes with Ed Ahlstrom.  She studied for several years with Glen Kessler at the Compass Atelier. and he still remains one of her favorite teachers.

Mimi’s paintings reflect the diversity of life experiences and include local scenes, flowers, still lifes, and pets. She has had exhibits of her paintings at the Popcorn Gallery in Glen Echo Park, the Yellow Barn Gallery, Brookside Gardens, the Rockville Mayor’s Office, and the Garrett County Art Sale and Wine Festival. Mimi for many years displayed work at the yearly Glen Echo Park Labor Day Art Show, the Woman’s Club of Chevy Chase Art Show, and Montgomery County Plein Air Artists Shows.

Since moving to New Jersey, she has had paintings exhibited at shows with the  Willingboro Art Alliance and the Burlington County Senior Art Show. She also donated 2 small 6x6 paintings to a Perkins Art Scholarship Fundraiser.

Artist's Statement

A painting captures a moment, a thing, a place, or a season, which can then be revisited and enjoyed once again. Painting each of these moments is joy and a challenge.
